iiis (pronounced ‘eyes’) have their second release out now. With a heavy emphasis on DIY, their latest release was recorded and produced by the band, creating tension and atmosphere in slow, heavy, intricate washes that rise and fall. Play loud for full effect!
iiis are: Paul Allen (he/him) guitars/vocals, Helen Pearson (she/her) drums/vocals.
About iiis: iiis formed in Feb 2024 when Paul was looking for musical collaborators on a similar wavelength and, after a couple of line-up changes, bassist Caroline (Wonderland) and guitarist on bass Hannah Bruce (Death of the Maiden), iiis has formed into core songwriters, Paul and Helen, who have started to collaborate with other musicians to explore and create slow, experimental songs. They are currently playing with Gareth Jones bassist from North London’s electric drone pop band The Leaf Library.
iiis choose to pull away from their first gut instincts in song-writing - we try to catch ourselves if we start to lean towards ‘familiar, safe’ choices and ask ourselves many times during the song writing process, ‘what would happen if we did the complete opposite.’ We want to encourage each other to think in a different way, try new things and find the best way to let the songs have space to emerge and breathe into life.
We are a diverse band; age, sexuality, gender, neurotype and inevitably this comes out in our song-writing, from politics, loss, inaction, anxiety and powerlessness.
More about iiis: The track ‘Slow Riot’ from their first EP was selected for an Album to celebrate 20 years of Joyzine Magazine.
